God Spoke and His People Listened

We all know we are not to despise the day of small beginnings, right? Well, this gathering was anything but small. Yes, the shock waves that were felt from this event will be felt for many generations to come.

The dust has settled. I’m sure everyone who attended is still processing all the Lord spoke during the first ever ARISE Bootcamp! The Nevada House of Prayer was honored to host the ARISE ministry last weekend. ARISE exists to inspire life-changing conversations. The ARISE ministry is charged with the focus of creating a thriving intercessory community in Nevada. And they are off to a great start.

The event speakers brought their own amazing strength and wisdom to each session. Dave Quinn an amazing leader and man of faith shared on the high purpose of loving Jesus. Jason Sheffield encouraged the younger generation to go to the older generation in love and humility. Then reminded the older to be receptive to the new things the next generation might bring to the table. Linda Persinger gave powerful teaching on our mindsets as intercessors. Shawn Pennell, the group's founder, inspired us to keep ranks and create safe and effective prayer communities. And finally, one of the standout speakers, Kathy Mooney helped those in the final session better understand their identity in Christ. Not only that she also walked attendees through the process of creating their own identity statements. The final session proved to be a powerful time of connection and personal revelation that impacted the entire group.

This crazy gathering of intercessor is reaching new hights and impacting lives. There was a tangible sense of connection and unity throughout the entire event. As I talked with attendees it was obvious they could sense the voice of the Lord and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit. You could see hope rising in the room at times and feel genuine love for the person sitting next to you. The impartation of joy and belief for greater things on the horizon was what many commented on as they got to know each other over lunch. Conversations were full of smiles, laughter, and life. And as you might guess there was no shortage of faith-filled prayer.

One exhortation from the day-long event was to take action in our relationships. So, in that spirit lets look at some biblical truths that will guide you on your way to wholeness in your relationships.

The most common way a relationship is wounded is through our speech which hurts our spirits and can drive people away. Ask yourself what things I’m I saying about the older generation or what things I am saying about the younger generation. When I pray with others (corporately) am I speaking the heart of the Father or am I venting in my flesh. In other words, when we become more aware of our speech, as intercessor, we honor God and show value for our position as people who speak the things on God’s heart. Guard the things you say daily and watch your relationships change for the better.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21)

“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4)

The other side of the coin in mending relationships is to listen more. This goes hand in hand with guarding our mouth because when we are slow to speak and quick to listen (James 1:19) then many of the division in our relationships can be resolved. Answers are more easily found when our mouth stops moving and our heart starts listening.

It is never a bad idea to try and put new practices into action. Take some time to ask the Lord what He wants you to do and then go and do it.

Do you want to dive deeper in conversation God? Because the God of the universe wants to hear from you. Get connected with this ministry and start your journey.

Just Worship

You never know when the Lord chooses to encounter a life in a powerful way. John speaking about the Holy Spirit says in his gosple, “The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” Yet, at unexpected moments the Holy Spirit will reveal His great love and overwhelm us just because He really likes us.

This last year, one of our worship leaders had a loving encounter with the Father. It serves as a reminder that we don’t have to earn His affection. All He wants is relationship with you. And all you have to do is stay in relationship with Him— keep the conversation going. You can do this through prayer, worship, creativity, meditation on His Word or turning your attention toward Him as you drive across town. He wants to lavish you with His goodness. He is interested in your life. The small things and the big things are important to Him. As you read Michael’s testimony be encouraged that the Lord wants to meet you in a similar way when you choose connection instead of disconnection.

Michael’s Story

Being a Christian songwriter and recording artist I always appreciate having a place to just sit for an hour and worship our Lord. The Nevada House of Prayer is just that place.

I am always amazed at the Lords faithfulness. Whether the prayer room is packed or there are only a few in attendance He shows up. Good Friday is a great example there were only a few folks in the prayer room, but it turned out to be an extraordinary evening. There have been evenings when the presence of the Lord was so strong and yet tender that I had to really control myself to keep from breaking down and weeping while some of those in the audience were weeping under the presence.

Another amazing night there was in March of this year. I was in New York last November and developed a horrible case of vertigo. The doctor said there was fluid in my left ear from nasel congestion and a few days of a decongestant would take care of it. But it didn’t! Whenever I would turn my head to the left when lying down the room would spin. After four months of this with nothing helping me I went to an ENT the last Tuesday of March. My head was still spinning but the ENT said there is no fluid in your ear and there is no infection either so he said I needed to get an MRI to rule out a tumor in my ear canal.

The next night was Wednesday, I went in to the House of Prayer to do my worship set. I didn’t tell anyone there what I was battling and what the doctor said, I just worshipped. It was a powerful night. When I went to bed that night I fell asleep quickly but woke up around 2am and I felt something was different. I turned my head to the left and no spinning. I did it again and again...no spinning, the first time in four months.

The doctors office called the next day to set up my MRI... I said I don’t need it God healed my ear last night while worshipping Him. It was a testimony for that nurse. My ear is still fine.

Michael is a worship leader at the Nevada House of Prayer and also serves in worship with other ministries in the Reno area.
